Part 2--Reclaiming Me: Rediscovering Myself after Marriage, Motherhood, and a Career.

“How do I quit my job?” was the question I put into the Google search one day in February of 2022 as if I didn’t know the proper protocol. At that time, I was trying to distract myself from my job by pursuing my creative interests. I was in rehearsal for my second play in three months but it just wasn’t enough to quell the gnawing feeling in my stomach that told me it was time to quit. I was searching for something on Google that I could only find within myself. Courage. The search led to predictable articles but one result stood out; a podcast entitled Make Shift Happen with Samantha Daily. The episode was “Quitting Jobs & Changing Career Paths” and it resonated with me in every possible way; desiring to leave an otherwise good job, not having a plan, feeling misaligned, cognitive dissonance, guilt… I could go on. I soaked it all in and became obsessed with listening to the podcast altogether. Obsessed, and also embarrassed. What did a tall, middle-aged, Haitian-American attorney with a family have in common with a single, white, twenty-something-year-old, petite blonde with no children? Our experiences in this world were greatly different. However, she was the vessel through which the universe sent me the messages I needed to make changes. While I wasn’t announcing my new addiction to anyone other than my closest friends, I continued to listen to this podcast which opened the door to other podcasts and ultimately, to spirituality. I explored how to listen to and trust my intuition, understand my soul’s alignment with my purpose, seek support from my spirit guides and angels, and manifest. By June of 2022, I had gained enough courage to give my notice.
I learned that I am more powerful than my human mind can fathom. With this power, I can partner with the universe to co-create the life I want. I learned that every single one of us has this same unlimited power if we choose to activate it within ourselves. The podcasts, the books, the workshops, and speeches I’ve flooded myself with all came down to this very point. Yet, as simple as it sounds, a tremendous amount of hard work must be done in order to get into the space that makes this co-creation possible. Finally, I learned that the work is never-ending. We achieve awareness only to learn that there is more to overcome and heal as we elevate to a higher level of being.
Today, I smile as I open my eyes in the morning, excited because I decide what kind of day I want to have and I look forward to what the day has to offer. I choose how I want to show up in the world and for the people whom I love. I’ve started Labonté-Blaise Law, LLC, a law practice where I can choose how I provide legal advocacy and consultation to parents with students with varying abilities, with a focus on empowering parents with tools to effectively advocate for their child’s needs. I act, direct and write. Most important, I am a better mother and wife. I wear many hats and I would not have it any other way.
